This and other general information about their diet, habitat, behaviors, and physical features can be found in this nonfiction introduction to the tiny bird. Vocabulary words appear in bold print within the text, and their definitions are located at the bottom of the page. A small map indicates where hummingbirds live. Throughout the book are vivid color photographs that highlight the beautiful plumage of this small bird. An account of a Mexican folktale about the iridescent feathers of the hummingbird is included. Teachers will want to include this text in a study unit on birds (or animals); in addition, the pourquoi tale can serve as a springboard for cross-curricular study. No content consultant is noted.
